Weft — the daily pattern gauntlet

Can you read the rule? Weft is a free browser logic game: five quick pattern puzzles, the same for everyone each day, each one a different kind of reasoning — sequences, rules, transformations, matrices. Nothing is written down; the rule hides in plain sight, woven into shapes, counts and fills. No signup — a full daily takes about two minutes.

The five rounds

NEXTFour panels in a row follow one hidden stepping rule — maybe the count grows, maybe the shape cycles, maybe everything slowly turns. Work out what comes fifth and tap it from six options. Scored on how fast the rule clicks — paced for real thinking time, not reflexes; a wrong tap costs a chunk, a second wrong ends the round.
ODDSETFive panels. Four of them quietly agree on one thing — same count, same fill, same shape — while looking wildly different otherwise. One panel breaks the agreement. This is not a spot-the-difference: every panel looks unique, and the odd one out is odd by rule, not by appearance. Tap it.
FLOWA becomes B by exactly one change. Below them: C, and a question mark. Apply the same change to C and tap the result from six options — the classic analogy, in shapes. Watch for the traps: the options include the change run backwards and no change at all. The gold spark on the arrows shows which way the change flows: A turns into B, left to right — apply it to C in that same direction, never backwards.
GRIDA 3×3 matrix: something steps as you read across, something else changes row by row. The bottom-right cell is missing. Read the weave both ways and tap the panel that completes it. The deepest round — it gets the longest clock.
RULEBREAKSix panels, all woven from two rules at once — say, everything striped AND everything in threes. One panel breaks exactly one of the two rules. Harder than ODDSET: first induce both rules, then find the thread that snapped. Your first-ever failed round earns one gentle retry — after that, misses count.

Scoring

Every round scores your reasoning speed from 0 to 100 — see the rule quickly and it's green, puzzle it out slowly and you still earn partial credit. A wrong tap costs 25 points and a second wrong ends the round at zero, so look before you tap — Weft rewards the patient read, not the fast guess. Your daily result is the average of the five rounds, plus a five-square trail (🟩 read it · 🟨 puzzled it out · 🟥 tangled) you can copy and send as a challenge — the link carries your score, so a friend who opens it is dared to out-think you. Come back tomorrow for a fresh gauntlet and build a daily streak — beat yesterday's score to sharpen it, and if you miss a day your personal best is saved and waiting. The menu shows your last seven days as a chain of squares — each finished gauntlet fills one, and today's pulses until you play. After you finish, the results screen shows today's rivals — how many players ran the gauntlet in the last 24 hours, the best score among them, and where yours ranks. Rivals are always anonymous: a count and a score, never names or accounts.

Controls

AnswerTap (mouse or finger). In NEXT, FLOW and GRID you tap one of the option tiles below the puzzle; in ODDSET and RULEBREAK you tap the rule-breaking panel itself. Desktop: arrow keys move the highlight, ENTER taps.
Start a roundEach round waits for you — the clock only starts when you tap START. Nothing is sprung on you mid-read.
Wrong tapsA red ring and −25 for the first wrong tap; a second wrong ends the round — but Weft then shows you the answer, so you learn the rule for tomorrow.

Modes

Daily gauntlet: 5 seeded puzzles — sequences, sets, analogies and matrices identical for every player worldwide that day. One attempt each. Mid-gauntlet progress is saved if you get interrupted.

Practice — the pattern trainer: endless puzzles, your way. Pick all five mixed or drill a single type — next, oddset, flow, grid or rulebreak. Every drill climbs a 12-level difficulty ladder: score green and the next puzzle gets harder — more panels, subtler rules, more options, tighter clocks — score red and it steps back down. Your current and best level per type live in the picker: how high can you climb? Weft also keeps a lifetime accuracy average per type (from both daily and practice rounds, stored only in your browser), so the picker doubles as your reasoning profile: it shows your average and level for each puzzle type and flags your weakest round from today's gauntlet. Every round you finish — daily or practice — also earns XP equal to its score: climb a 12-rank ladder from guessing through threader and decoder up to rule-weaver. Your rank only ever goes up, and it lives in your browser — no account needed.

Tips

Weft is a game, not an IQ test — it measures practice and patience, and every puzzle rewards a calmer, more deliberate read.

FAQ

Is it free? Do I need an account? Free, no account, no install needed. It runs in any modern browser, on phones and school Chromebooks alike. If you'd like the daily one tap away, you can optionally add Weft to your home screen — once you're on a 2-day streak, an "add to home screen" button appears after your daily on supported browsers. No download, no store, it's the same game in an app-shaped wrapper.

Is it the same puzzle for everyone? Yes — the daily gauntlet is seeded by the date, so your 73 and your friend's 88 came from identical panels and rules.

Does it work in my language? Practically yes — the puzzles are shapes, counts and fills, not words.

Who made this? Weft is an original game by Yuki Andersen. More free games: Gauge, Glimpse, Tempo, Prism, Keel, Scout, Wordpull, Floe, Ballast, Well Duel, Well Putt, Wellspring.
